Your Most Commonly Asked Eye Beauty Questions Answered

When I was getting into makeup, years ago, I asked myself these questions. Over the years, after numerous trials and errors, I realized what works best for me and what does not. Many articles on the net confirmed my hunch that these are some of the most commonly asked eye beauty questions.

1) Do you need eye cream?

Is eye cream really necessary? You get a 50/50 response from dermatologists about the need to wear eye cream. Eye area needs extra care. The skin around your eyes is more sensitive and delicate from other areas on your face. It has less collagen and elastin. Because of the thin delicate skin any fluid retention appears more prominent. Thank goodness we have different eye creams that target different issues, fine lines, anti-aging, and puffiness etc.

2) How many coats of mascara should you apply?

Here is my answer. I mostly apply one, sometimes two coats of mascara. Applying more mascara makes my eyelashes clumpy. But if it works for you, go for it.

3) Should I apply mascara to top lashes only or top and bottom lashes?

Fashionistas are divided on this topic about your eye look. Some love the look of mascara on top and bottom lashes. Others do not like to wear mascara on their bottom lashes. I prefer wearing mascara only on my top lashes, I just like the look of it better than wearing mascara on top and bottom lashes. It's your choice, do whatever you prefer.

4) Should I wear eyeliner on top, or bottom lid or both?

I’m sure we have all read articles which state that wearing eyeliner on the bottom lid ages you. So a couple of years back I cut down on wearing eyeliner on the bottom lid and loved the effect. These days I wear a nude eyeliner or a light colored eyeliner on my bottom lid and a darker shade on my top lid.
Go by your personal choice. If you want your eyes to appear larger, I would suggest, skip eyeline on your lower lash line. Try out all options and see what you like.

5) What are some basic tips for hooded eye makeup?

I have hooded eyes with some crease area visible. There is not much of a canvas for elaborate looks. But there are tips and tricks to make eyes look larger. The basic tips I follow are :-

Apply makeup keeping my eyes slightly open
Always blend outward and upwards
Apply eyeshadow just above your actual crease, instead of in the natural fold/crease of your eyelid.
