Holiday Red Lips with Hourglass, NARS, MAC and Tom Ford Lipsticks

A fun fact for you. Hewlett-Packard’s (also known as HP) name was decided in a coin toss in 1939. The name was always going to be a hyphenation of the two founders' last names, so in order to decide between Hewlett-Packard and Packard-Hewlett, they flipped a coin. I wish I could decide between colors by flipping a coin. Red or Nude… umm flip a coin!

Today I have some similar looking red lipsticks for you. But to a self proclaimed beauty addict, these have subtle differences and that to me justifies my purchases. To type the word similar looking here took courage because if my husband were to say they all look the same, it would end up in a discussion about tones and undertones by the end of which, I’m sure he would agree that they are all slightly different.

Hourglass Secretly and Tom Ford Night Porter

Secretly is a classic red. On the Sephora website Ultra Slim lipsticks are described as long wearing lipsticks with a satin finish. The formula is very creamy and so comfortable that I forget I have lipstick on. The smaller width of these lipsticks make application less messy. Because these lipsticks have a refillable applicator, I am a fan!

MAC Ruby Woo and Russian Red

Both Ruby Woo and Russian Red are both such iconic, well known MAC red lipstick shades. Ruby Woo is a part of MAC’s retro matte lipstick line. It is a blue toned red. I find the formula rather drying and to be honest the application is not smooth. But it’s a gorgeous color. Wear it with a few coats of mascara to amp up your glam quotient.

Russian Red is a matte lipstick, much creamier than Ruby Woo. Russian Red is a bit darker and more neutral, I would say. Ruby Woo is more vibrant. Russian Red’s formula is so much more comfortable.

Regardless both are beautiful, classic reds in their own right.

NARS Cruella and Dragon Girl Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil

The Sephora website describes Cruella as a scarlet red and Dragon girl as a siren red. Both are matte lipstick pencils that are very pigmented. The staying power of Velvet Matte Lipsticks is incredible. Cruella is a blue based medium dark red. I believe Cruella to be a flattering shade on multiple skin tones. Dragon Girl is a bright red that leans towards pink. I would categorize this as a cool red. These pencils do need to be sharpened and you will need a jumbo sharpener.

I have heard that Taylor Swift wears NARS Dragon Girl on a regular basis and I can see why.

Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Night Porter

Night Porter is a dark red lipstick, with a satin finish. It has good coverage and the formula is comfortable. Tom Ford packaging is so classy. This is perfect for a holiday party.

The matte lipsticks in this post definitely leave a stain behind, the creamy and satin lipsticks not so much. I am more of a nude lipstick kind of gal. But love red too. Love red lipstick on others. I would wear red lipstick around the house when I did not have the confidence to rock it outside. Now slowly but surely I am more comfortable wearing dark shades, bright shades outside of the house.
