Almost feels like if I don’t apply lip-balm I get what I call crocodile lips. Therefore I think I am addicted to lip balm. I am stuck in the cycle of applying lip balm, dryness, reapplying lip balm cycle. Not just during winter, I use it avidly even during summer months. This reapplication process might be annoying for some, but not for this self proclaimed lipstick, lip balm addict. This addiction is not dangerous for you, however the same can’t be said about your wallet. In this post I have a review of my favorite Lip Balms Tinted and Clear.
I will review some of my favorite clear and tinted lip balms. The brands included in this post are By Terry, Hourglass, Fresh by Sugar, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Clarins, Milk Beauty and Dior.
Fresh Sugar Lip Balm Sunscreen Spf 15 $24
Sephora website says it’s a cult-favorite hydrating and smoothing lip balm that offers clear, sheer, and effortless color with lasting moisture and essential sun protection. It can be used on normal, dry, combination and oily skin. It has sugar, meadowfoam, black currant seed oils and grapeseed oil which is rich in antioxidants. This also has the Clean at Sephora seal which means that the product is formulated without a list of over 50 ingredients, including sulfates (SLS and SLES), parabens, phthalates, and more. For the full list, check out the Ingredients tab on the Sephora website.
I have these in many colors. The ones included in the picture are Fresh Sugar Lip Balm Sunscreen Spf 15 in shade Sugar(clear), Fresh Sugar tinted lip treatment in the shade Coral and Fresh Sugar tinted lip treatment in the Rose. All the balms have a sweet, lemony scent and are very moisturizing. Moreover these are very smooth and add a beautiful kiss of color and provide much needed hydration to your lips.
Fresh Sugar Mint Rush Freshening Lip Treatment $24
The Sephora website says it’s a cutting-edge, 24-hour moisturizing lip treatment that delivers a burst of cooling minty freshness. It uses a time release technology that provides nourishing, minty freshness for 24 hours. It has the Clean at Sephora seal.
This goes on very smooth and smells very minty and fresh. Also it is very refreshing in the summer. I would not agree with the 24 hours hydration claim, but my lips do feel hydrated while I am wearing this lip balm and nourished after the balm disappears.
Fresh Sugar Hydrating Lip Balm in Caramel $18
The Sephora website says it’s a cushiony, hydrating lip balm that delivers non-stop 24-hour moisture and a velvety shine along with addictive flavors. It has sugar, blend of Apricot Kernel, Black Currant Seed, Grapeseed Oils and Vitamin E.
Firstly, it looks and smells like caramel. Who doesn’t like that? I like to use it as treatment when my lips are extra dry( sadly that does happen). That way I don’t reach the crocodile lips stage.
Bobbi Brown Lip Balm
This is a regular lip balm that comes in a tin container. It appears to have a light pink hue, but is transparent on me, once it is applied.Provides hydration for the time that I am wearing it. Additionally, I sometimes wear it under a drying lipstick.
Find it at Nordstrom.
Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint in Bare Melon $29
The Sephora website says it’s a lightweight, sheer, and ultra-moisturizing formula with all the benefits of a balm, plus a color-enhancing tint that brings out the best in lips. Above all it has a nourishing blend of olive, avocado, and jojoba oils smooths and softens lips. It reduces the look of fine lines while delivering a healthier, fuller look.
Also, I like the white tube with its slight shimmer and Bobbi Brown lettering in black against the white of the tube. The balm does what it is supposed to. Adds a sheer wash of color on days that I want slight color and keeps my lips looking healthy.
Clinique Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment $31
It is marketed as a treatment that improves the look of lines on and around the lips. I use it mostly at night as it is fragrance free and my lips feel hydrated when I wake up.
Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm $18.50
I have a couple of shades from this range. I love the chubby stick in Whole Lotta Honey ( a sheer nude beige). Knowing my love for nudes, my sister introduced me this shade years back and from that this has been a staple in my makeup bag. Over the years, I have repurchased this multiple times.
The other Clinique shade is a chubby stick lip tint in 02 coming up rosy. I cannot find this anywhere online. This product is discontinued.
Dior Addict Lip Glow Pomade Color Reviver Instant Oil-Gel Care
You can use it during the day by itself, under your favorite lipstick or at night as a healing treatment. It has a slight tint but thankfully does not turn fluorescent pink on me which some other universally flattering shades have done in the past. I cannot find it on the Sephora, Nordstrom websites. I hope it was not a limited edition product. But thankfully you can buy the Dior Addict Lip Glow in 001 Pink Glow which is very similar.
I also included Dior Addict Lacquer Plump in my photographs because I find this formula very moisturizing.
Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector $26
These are extremely hydrating. I love these, they are not sticky, easy to apply and are very moisturizing. They have a sponge applicator which glides easily over your lips and helps with an even application of the balm. Good for when you want a natural look.
Find it at Nordstrom.
Milk Makeup Kush Lip Balm in Bubble $16
Bubble Kush lip balm is a tinted, sheer, neutral rose with some golden shimmer that’s very flattering on medium NC37, Chanel Beige 40 skin tone. It has hemp-derived cannabis seed oil, moringa butter and shea butter to hydrate, soothe and nourish your pout. This is also included in the Clean at Sephora products.
The packaging is awesome. The lip balm tube is heavy, magnetic and looks luxurious. My nose detects a slight minty smell, which is not too strong. It’s a good everyday lip balm to use in the summer months.

Hourglass N° 28 Lip Treatment Oil $49
According to Sephora this is an advanced anti-aging lip treatment that combines powerful ingredients in a rich oil blend. No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil is dispensed with an opulent 24 karat, antibacterial, gold-plated tip to create a soothing effect on the lips. It’s available in one clear shade with a high shine finish and three flattering shades to provide the lips with a rich flush of healthy color.
I have this in clear and use it as a treatment. The finish is shiny and the texture is smooth, with a slight herbal scent. Hourglass Lip Treatment Oil is designed to provide hydration and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It is a medium thick product which does not feel greasy. Mostly it looks like you have a clear lip balm or a clear gloss on. I certainly love the packaging. The container/tube has a gold plated tip that dispenses oil without creating a mess and feels cool to the touch.
By Terry Baume De Rose Nutri Couleur $56
I had read so many good reviews about this lip balm. This was totally a want vs a need. I stalked the web, read all that there was to read about this balm. I must have gone back and forth at least a thousand times whether to buy this expensive lip balm. And I finally bit the bullet and got it. I got the tinted lip balm in the shade Fig Fiction.
According to Bluemercury it is a tinted version of By Terry’s iconic Baume de Rose, this nourishing lip care treatment features a blend of essential rose wax, shea butter, vitamin E and volumizing bio-cerimides to repair and enhance lips. It smells like roses to me, the smell does not bother me. Helps with nourishing and moisturizing the lips. I use my finger to apply and then wipe off the extra on a tissue. It’s definitely a splurge, buy it as a special something to treat yourself.
