As I was standing in front of my fridge, with the fridge doors wide open, wondering how to satiate my rumbling tummy, I saw 2 alligator pears, in other words avocados, just waiting to be devoured. After a quick detour to the pantry, I saw an unopened packet of tortilla chips. At that moment, just plain good old chips did not feel particularly appetizing. However, guacamole and chips together sounded divine. A delicious, healthy snack in minutes.
Chips and guacamole are a classic combination but you can also try Guacamole with crunchy vegetables like cucumbers, carrots, celery. You can also enjoy it with toast which is also a popular dish (avocado toast). It is delicious with pita bread too.
Avocados are an excellent source of heart healthy monounsaturated fats. They contain more potassium than bananas. The majority fat is oleic acid which has been associated with reduced inflammation and shown to have beneficial effects on genes linked to cancer. Furthermore, Avocados are rich in fiber and very low in carbs and that may have important benefits for weight loss and metabolic health. They are also rich in antioxidants that can protect your eyes. But most of all, they taste incredible!
For this delicious recipe, you will need :
- 1 Hass avocado
- 1 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon diced onion
- Pinch of salt/salt according to taste
1 teaspoon tomatoes
1 small clove of garlic. I always grate the garlic, as I don't like huge chunks of raw garlic in my guacamole. As a matter of fact, I do like garlicky guacamole.
If you like some heat, you can add some red pepper flakes or ¼ piece of seeded and finely diced jalapeno. In our house nobody likes hot spicy food, except me, so I just add jalapenos in my guacamole, not in the entire bowl.
Cut the avocado in half, and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Mash it with a fork. Mix lemon juice, salt, onion and the optional ingredients if you choose to do so. This delicious guacamole is truly ready in minutes. Finally, enjoy your delicious, healthy snack!
