Years back I remember seeing these cute pink sponges in Sephora aisles. So squishy, almost like a stress ball, like a toy perhaps. I later learned that it was the beauty blender makeup sponge. A new rage, all makeup gurus recommended. Somehow I did not purchase it for years, after all my finger and brushes do the job just fine.
Then I got curious and decided to purchase one. This was about two years back. And now I can share some thoughts on the beauty blender makeup sponge.
What Sephora Says
It is “A top-selling makeup sponge, the super-soft, exclusive, latex-free foam quickly blends makeup for an easy application and flawless, skin-like finish.” It gives you a “streak-free application with minimum product waste. Use it with foundations, powders, and any other complexion product.
Made with the same exclusive ultra-plush foam as the original beautyblender. When wet, it becomes mega soft and mimics pores to create a natural airbrushed application easily. Plus, it absorbs water, not makeup, so your fave formulas land on your skin, not in your sponge. Made in the USA.
It is cruelty-free and formulated without latex, parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
This product is an Allure Best of Beauty winner.”
How to use
- Wet beautyblender with water for each use.
- Squeeze out excess liquid, using a towel if necessary.
- Bounce foundation, bb cream, powder, or any other base and complexion product across the face for flawless results.
- Cleanse with your favorite makeup brush cleanser after each use to remove makeup and grime.
- It is recommended that you replace your beautyblender every three to six months.

My Experience
I love the beautyblender makeup sponge for applying and blending foundation and concealer. First, I wet the beauty blender, squeeze out the extra water and then sort of bounce the blender onto the product. Then I apply it to my face using a bouncing motion which makes my foundation look natural. I use the pointed end around the nose, mouth and on my blemishes.
The beautyblender makeup sponge gives me a very even application. It extends the wear time of my foundation and my makeup looks fresher longer. I love that about it. Since they say you have to wash your beauty blender makeup sponge after every use, I only use it sometimes. I love the finish but washing it after each use is adding one more step to my routine. Hence on a day to day basis I prefer to use my fingers to apply my foundation. But on days that I want my makeup to look fabulous and last even longer than usual, I reach for the beauty blender makeup sponge.
I use this occasionally, so I have had my beauty blender makeup sponge for more than a year.
Pros
- Natural finish
- Can be used for applying, blending products
- Can also be used to apply powder products
Cons
- Pink color bleeds when you wash the sponge
