I absolutely love a no makeup makeup look. The less is more philosophy is something that I follow with my makeup routine, on most days at least. But sometimes I need more. Because my skin is not behaving or simply just because I want to. I do enjoy a glam look once in a while. I'll admit I wasn't looking for a new foundation, when I walked into Sephora. However, I was intrigued and swatched and tried the new Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Liquid Foundation.
The Sephora website says this is “A breathable, luminous foundation that effortlessly builds and blends to illuminate the complexion with customizable, long-wearing coverage.”

Packaging Of The Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Liquid Foundation
The foundation comes in a glass bottle with a white cap. It has a pump mechanism to dispense the product. The front of the bottle has the brand name written in black. Simple packaging that looks good, in my opinion.
Formula Of The Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Liquid Foundation
Sephora says this foundation is “Free of parabens, formaldehydes, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, sulfates SLS & SLES, triclocarban, and contains less than one percent synthetic fragrance. It is also vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. This foundation reveals skin’s natural luminosity. It features MoistureGrip™ technology, and hydrates skin and glides on easily for customizable coverage—layer it on or sheer it out. The buildable formula works harmoniously with powders or creams while staying true to its original color.”
The highlighted ingredients include Grapeseed Oil and Vegetal Squalene that provide the skin with restoring moisturizing benefits. And also Perfecting Powders that work with skins natural texture for a smoothed and enhanced finish.

Shades Of The Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Liquid Foundation
Currently this foundation comes in 30 shades. I tried two shades 6W and 9W. The shades are divided into Light, Light Medium, Medium, Medium Dark and Dark on the Makeup By Mario website. Also shades are further divided into C for cool, N for Neutral, W for Warm and O for Olive.
My Experience
I tired both 6W and 9W and 9W is a better match for me. The foundation goes on smoothly and lasts for 8 hours or more. The finish is luminous. It is not too glowy, just a bit of glow to mimic healthy skin. Makeup For Mario SurrealSkin Liquid Foundation can be used for an everyday look or for an all glam look, if you build up the foundation.

I have combination skin and this foundation does not look oily on me. But if you have oily skin, you might want to try it out first. This did not oxidize on me. I like the medium coverage it provides. If I hold the bottle up in light, I can see some shimmer particles, but I cannot see them on my face. I have worn this foundation multiple times, sometimes with powder, sometimes without and love the final look.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Makeup by Mario SurrealSkin Foundation is on the thicker side. So a little bit goes a long way. I require just half a pump to cover my face. And whatever product remains on the brush, I apply to my neck.

Pros
- Beautiful, luminous finish
- A little bit goes a long way
- Vegan, gluten-free and also cruelty-free
Cons
- If you have oily skin, you may want to try it before committing to it
